Battery metals
Pure lead, lead alloys and antimony for battery makers who want their metal and their oxide from one experienced lead supplier.
A lead-acid battery is built from two kinds of lead: oxide for the active paste, and metal for the grids, straps and terminals that carry current. Waldies supplies both, so battery manufacturers can source the full lead bill of materials from one partner.
Our battery metals range covers refined pure lead, lead–calcium and lead–antimony alloys made to customer composition, and antimony metal for alloying.

Frequently asked questions
Why are lead alloys used in battery grids?
Pure lead is soft. Alloying it with calcium, tin or antimony makes grids strong enough to cast, handle and survive cycling. Calcium alloys suit maintenance-free batteries with low water loss; antimony alloys suit deep-cycle and traction batteries.
Can you make alloys to our composition?
Yes. Lead alloys are supplied to the customer's specified composition, with analysis for each lot.
Do you supply antimony separately?
Yes. Antimony metal is available for customers who alloy in-house.
