Waldies plans an independent Virichem facility and new capacity
Wire & Cable India reports Waldies' plans for new capacity and an independent Virichem facility, focused on performance products for wires and cables.
The Economic Times reported that Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is in talks with battery makers to license a new technology that, it says, raises lead-acid battery life by 30% and cuts charging time by 40%, or to manufacture storage devices jointly.
IOC's research centre has developed a nano-material that is added to the lead-acid battery in a fixed proportion. The improved battery has been tested in three-wheelers.
IOC chose lead-acid technology as better suited to Indian needs: it is mature, its raw materials are available in India, and its recycling technology is established in the country.
For Waldies, a long-standing supplier of lead oxides and battery metals to India's battery industry, the work is a reminder that lead-acid chemistry still has room to improve.
